Centered on a dive bar in counter-cultural Sidetown, B-Sides explores the lives of characters living their best, dysfunctional lives away from the mainstream and the bright lights of the glamorous side of town.

Volume 1 is packed with long and short-form tales from the cast of B-Sides. Some of our residents are more famous than others… Keep your eyes peeled for real-life artists! Scan QR codes in the comic to access pop-up animated scenes.

B-Sides caught my attention with its creative art style and use of animations in its story. To then discover that the comic was centered on characters living their daily lives, albeit dysfunctional, in LA resonated with me. Clearly it resonated with others as well, with over $2,000 crowdfunded, B-Sides is well on its way to becoming a reality.

BLOODSMITH

Creators: Morgan Quaid (Writer), David Swartz (Artist)

Goal: $2,539

End Date: November 18th

Goodies: a digital and physical copy, variant editions, a limited edition, a collectors bundle, a t-shirt, and much more!

Sir Idris Harrow, Bloodsmith, the independently wealthy nobleman, is called to the home of Lord Montague to investigate the apparent possession of a young boy by a creature from the Abyss. Harrow soon learns that this child is not the only victim but hundreds of others throughout the city have been afflicted by supernatural tumors, their minds and bodies supplanted by a cruel, demonic intelligence.

Harrow and his team (a mysterious woman named Tilda Abigail who shares a deep connection with the spiritual realm and carries a puppet through which she communicates, and Dane Flint, a gunslinger and tinkerer with a gift for mechanical wizardry) must unravel the mystery and stand against the forces of darkness before London is overrun.

BLOODSMITH caught our attention with its visuals, the art is fantastic and the story is interesting. Having different characters come together to fight what appear to be eldritch horrors tends to be a lot of fun. BLOODSMITH seems reminiscent of comics like Hellboy and with over $1,500 crowdfunded of their $2,539 goal it’s gaining momentum.

INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS

Creators: Anthony Stokes (Writer), D.N.S (Artist)

Goal: $2,500

End Date: November 30th

Goodies: Digital and physical copy, variant covers, a signed copy, and much more!

When a high school bully pushes a latchkey teenager’s corroding mental state over the edge, Tyler’s mind fractures, birthing a ravenous demon formed from his damning intrusive thoughts. In order to keep his darkness at bay, Tyler must learn to love himself before he atrophies and consumes everything and everyone he’s come to know.

At 3 years old, Tyler was abandoned on the steps of a police station. Now, at age 16, he’s prone to migraines, night terrors, & sleep paralysis. His mental health becomes even more strained when his sleep paralysis demon bites one of his classmates.
Intrusive Thoughts is a special story for me because it deals with themes of loneliness, anxiety, and depression. I struggle with all 3 so working on Intrusive Thoughts provided a real sense of catharsis. I hope readers get a similar feeling when reading it.

There’s interest in the comic, and once you read the description, it’s not hard to see why. To focus on a character with trauma and issues such as loneliness, migraines, night terrors, and sleep paralysis—all of which culminate in his sleep paralysis demon actually biting one of their bullies—INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS appears to be something readers would not only be able to connect with but also enjoy reading.
