The 2021 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards were presented tonight. Or, as presented as they can be, given that Comic-Con 2021 is once again a virtual affair. Cartoonist Gene Luen Yang was the big winner of the evening, taking home three Eisner Awards, including two for Superman Smashes the Klan (Best Publication for Kids, and Best Adaptation from Another Medium) and one for Dragon Hoops (Best Publication for Teens). Stan Sakai and Simon Hanselmann also won multiple awards, Sakai for Usagi Yojimbo (Best Continuing Series and Best Lettering) and Hanselmann for Crisis Zone (Best Webcomic) and Seeds & Stems (Best Graphic Album – Reprint). Matt Fraction and Steve Lieber‘s Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen also took home two awards, Best Limited Series and Best Humor Publication.

The ComicCon@Home Eisner Awards livestream was hosted by Phil LaMarr, who put a positive spin on things, encouraging viewers to pause the video and take notes on books to read that sound interesting.

Next, Jackie Estrada introduced the proceedings, discussing how the nomination process was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, primarily due to the judges being located remotely both last year and this year. Estrada introduced the Eisner judges, four of whom are located in southern California, which she said made the judging easier this year than last year. She stressed the quality of all of the submissions, which made the judges’ jobs difficult.

With the preamble out of the way, LaMarr commenced with announcement of the winners. Here’s the full list of 2021 Eisner Award winners. Congratulations to all the winners, and to all of the nominees.
