This week AfterShock Comics releases Clans of Belari #2, the second issue in the series from writers Peter Blackie Rob Blackie, artist Daniel Maine, colorist Carlos Lopez, and letterer Taylor Esposito. The Beat has an exclusive preview of the issue, which sports a cover by Andy Clarke and Jose Villarrubia.

Here’s how AfterShock describes Clans of Belari #2:

The Clan Chieftains rebuke Cluthian’s bid for Chieftain status, so he turns to amassing alien-tech weapons with which he may take what he wants by force. Te’a has gotten a taste for flying, and despite the class rules against her — she wants nothing more than to become a pilot. She convinces Gummy to pressure a mysterious underground operator to circumvent the rules, but in doing so, Gummy has made a deal with the devil (yes, Cluthian) that is certain to come back to haunt him and Te’a.

In the series announcement, co-writer Rob Blackie describe he and his brother’s intentions in creating a series that’s grounded in real-world scenarios while implementing sci-fi elements:

“For a long time, we have been interested in a sci-fi story that imagines what life could be like for a human establishment on a distant planet facing similar struggles as we face on the Earth today. As soon as we travelled across the galaxy, so to speak, it opens up the fantastical and what we sometimes call space magic of the genre. That is just exciting and fertile territory for exploring character and story.”
