Dark Horse Comics has announced Children of the Woods, a new horror graphic novel coming in early 2022. The book is written by Joe Ciano, with art by Joshua Hixson, color art by Roman Stevens, and letters by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou.

Here’s how Dark Horse describes Children of the Woods:

After a tale of revenge leads to a monstrous outcome, Amber and Quinn pay the price for power and magic as they become the newest children of the Black Woods. As Amber becomes intertwined with the secrets of woods and the town they live in, Quinn learns he is not alone in the woods. And not all who reside there are welcoming.

In a statement announcing the book, Ciano says the forthcoming graphic novel is “about the drive that makes people become monsters, whether it’s sparked through tragedy, anger, or just one’s own curiosity.” Hixson describes the character as “hav[ing] lost themselves in the lore of the Black Woods,” and says the book is about where their obsession leaves them.

Children of the Woods is the first collaboration between Joe Ciano and Joshua Hixson. Ciano has previously teamed for self-published projects with artists Sly Krapa and Patrick Sinnott, while Hixson has worked with Christopher Sebela and Otsmane-Elhaou on Shanghai Red for Image Comics. What appears to be an early preview for Children of the Woods appears on Ciano’s website, with what looks like the earlier title of The Black Woods. The pages look beautifully moody, and Hixson can draw the heck out of a dense, creepy forest.

With a cover price of $19.99, the softcover Children of the Woods graphic novel goes on sale in comic shops on Wednesday, January 12th, 2022, and everywhere on Tuesday, January 25th, 2022.
