Glyph Award winners announced

The 2011 Glyph Award winners, recognizing the best in comics made by, for, and about people of color from the preceding calendar year, were presented yesterday at the East Coast Black Age of Comics Convention in Philadelphia. Fist Stick Knife Gun won three, Unknown Soldier won two, and Keith Knight won a record setting fifth award for Best Comic Strip or Webcomic for his strip The K Chronicles. Duncan the Wonder Dog wins LA Times Book Prize

The LA TImes Book Prizes were announced on Friday and Adam Hines' DUNCAN THE WONDER DOG won the award for best Graphic Novel. The mind stretching tale of a world where animals are sentient, the book has already won wide acclaim and the Lynd Ward Prize for Graphic Fiction. Despite the acclaim from outside prizes, DUNCAN was blanked at the Eisner Award nominations -- well, different strokes.

Rise of Arsenal and Greek Street nab PRISM Awards

Via The Source word that THE RISE OR ARSENAL by J.T. Krul, Geraldo Borges and Marlo Alquiza and GREEK STREET's Ajax storyline by Peter Milligan and Werther Dell’Edera, have won PRISM awards which recogonize the "accurate depiction of substance abuse and mental illness: prevention, treatment and recovery in film, television, interactive, music, DVD, and comic book entertainment."

It's the almost painful story of an awkward teen boy and his attempts to interact with his world. Read the whole thing in the link. The original story appeared in POPGUN #4.

Mike Keefe wins 2011 Pulitzer Prize

Editorial cartoonist Mike Keefe of the Denver Post has won this year's Pulizter Prize for cartooning. He won the 2011 John Fischetti Editorial Cartoon Competition earlier this year so he is on a roll. His home paper reacts here. A complete list of winners can be found here.

The Stumptown Awards were given out at the like-named festival on Saturday night, and we haven't checked twitter or Facebook for the evidence of hijinks but hopefully Beat reporter Jen Vaughn, who was on the scene, will have all the dish in her report. We do know the eremont was hosted by Bobby "Fatboy" Roberts and winner were chosen on a public ballot. Here is the very fine bunch of winners:

2011 Eisner Award nominations announced

The 2011 Eisner Award nominations have just been announced, and every year is colored a bit by the make-up of the judging panel, but this year's nominations seem to have gone out of their way to recognize some new faces and names -- the leading vote getters were The Return of the Dapper Men with five and Morning Glories and Locke & Key with four each. It's a vastly eclectic list, and recognizes the incredible diversity of today's comics industry.

Voting in the 2011 Inkwell Awards, honoring the best in the art of inking, has just been opened. The nominees are below; the awards will be presented...well, the PR doesn't really say. There are some amusing categories below -- Klaus Janson needs more attention and Todd McFarlane is small press -- but giving the hard working inkers of the world some props is always a good thing.
