Glyn Dillon marks his return to comics with the stunning release of THE NAO OF BROWN, a graphic novel that is shockingly different to his previous work with Vertigo. A sweeping story of a "hafu"(half Japanese and half English) young woman by the name of Nao, Dillon explores her unique form of OCD, one in which she constantly has violent and gruesome fantasies of deaths around. At the core of Nao's self exploration is a search for perfect love, and what she finds is that the real world is as warped and convoluted as her own morbid imaginings.

Top Cow's President Matt Hawkins has gone back to the keyboard as the co-creator and writer of THINK TANK, an ongoing B&W series about a government scientist who starts coming up with some tech that is too hot to handle. The artist is Rahsan Ekedal, who previously drew ECHOES and THE CRAZIES for Top Cow. The book is part of their more experimental Minotaur line, and so far it's a pretty taut thriller. Issue #2 comes out next week. Here's a preview of issue #1.

Revered designer Seymour Chwast has been romping in the graphic novel field of late, with his own versions of The Divine Comedy and The Canterbury Tales. Now he's doing The Odyssey...and here's a sample, in the dread Issu format.

Ethan Rilly's POPE HATS is a throwback to the golden era of indie comic books—a time undreamed of when LOVE AND ROCKETS and EIGHTBALL and HATE and YUMMY FUR came out every two months or so, and the comics periodical was an actual discrete unit of entertainment. It's also a reference to the finely observed, beautifully drawn comics...and yeah, it only comes out once a year or so, but it's worth waiting for.

Amid a flurry of controversy over the Kickstarter for this Garo tribute, Angie was kind enough to pass over her contribution, titled "The Teacup Tree," a whimsical tale of the coming of age and the tragic loss of imaginary friends.

I've been handed a preview for Harbinger #3 by Joshua Dysart, Khari Evans and Lewis LaRosa, due out on August 15th. In this chapter, our hero finally lands at the Harbinger Foundation. As I've said before, and probably will be saying for the foreseeable future, this is a comic that does not flinch at embracing the dark side of super powers. It looks like the slow build towards a particularly twisted conflict of moral agendas is picking up a little momentum.

Monkeybrain's newest digital-only title MASKS & MOBSTERS is a crime anthology set in the early days of the Golden Age of masked men, and tells the story of an enforcer bent on discovering the identify of who's been selling his boss out to a superhero. Joshua Williamson and Mike Henderson create a new kind of superhero noir that, at 14-pages, is fast, bloody, and ends with a brutal twist.
