Marvel has unveiled a new website for the upcoming Captain Marvel movie, and it’s a truly thing of beauty. The one-page design looks like it was made with Geocities, and features low-resolution images, word art, and a bunch of random empty space at the bottom of the page. There’s even an old woman for you to punch who pops up every now and then along the border of the page. The only thing it’s missing is an obnoxious midi that’s impossible to turn off. Don’t forget to scroll all the way down to the bottom for an important cameo.

But there’s an easter egg you may have missed while scrolling through the page. In true ’90s fashion, one of the images towards the bottom of the page, under the “Top Secret” section, appears not to have loaded:

Attempting to access the image URL directly reveals the name of a familiar Marvel villain who has yet to appear in the MCU:

Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Annihilus has traditionally been a Fantastic Four villain, occasionally acting as the ruler of the Negative Zone. The character was also behind the events of the Annihilation event series that led to the formation of the current iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, on which the movie Guardians are based.

From FANTASTIC FOUR Annual #6, by Lee and Kirby

Is Annihilus the as-yet unrevealed mastermind villain of Captain Marvel, or is the website just being clever? We’ll find out in a month, as Captain Marvel flies into theaters on March 8th.

UPDATE 2/9/19: The website’s just being clever. It looks like i.annihil.us is a URL that Marvel commonly uses for image hosting across their sites. Thanks to those who pointed this out.
