Okay so NOW the most hotly contested job in comics has finally been filled: Camilla Zhang has joined Kickstarter as their Comics Outreach Lead. In the job, Zhang will help develop the community and bring projects to completion. Zhang is formerly of Marvel, Mad Cave, Reading with Pictures, and DC Comics and is a creator herself, having been published by  Top CowReading with Pictures, and Crossed Genres. At DC she worked out of Mark Chiarello’s office on projects including Before Watchmen , Batman: Black & White Vol. 4, Batman: Death by Design, and Batman: Noël. She was also selected lest year for Marjorie Liu’s Genre Fiction workshop at VONA.

Zhang will work with Margot Atwell, director of comics and publishing.

The Kickstarter blog has the entrance interview, and Zhang seems like the kind of outgoing, knowledgable person who will be perfect for this role.

What are you excited about doing with the Comics community on Kickstarter?

I am STOKED to raise up the comics community, especially marginalized creators. As a queer woman of color, it’s a very personal mission of mine to highlight LGBTQIA and PoC comics writers and artists. But specifically, I want to nurture those who may not be confident when it comes to self-promotion. There are so many talented people out there who deserve a larger audience. I think that, often, artists and writers can be shy and unsure about how to market themselves. I’d love to use my experience and new role to help with that.

Congrats to Camilla!
