MAD Event Management, the organizers of Long Beach Comic Con and Expo, are launching C3 (Comic Creators Conference) at this year’s show. It’s a one day conference aimed at connecting comics professionals and creatives with opportunities in publishing, film, television and beyond.
C3 takes place February 17, 2017, the day prior to the opening of this year’s Long Beach Comic Expo. The format will be a series of informative panels and workshops hosted by industry leaders in both publishing and entertainment in a professional setting.
It’s been a while since anyone launched this kind of “pro day,” but it’s always a good idea. Milton Griepp’s ICv2 White Paper event, held at New York Comic Con, is a long running example, but it’s held during the con itself; this will be its own event prior to the Long Beach show.
“Our Spring Expo show has become the official start to the convention season, and really grown into an event that captures the attention of the comic book industry at large” says Martha Donato, President and founder of Long Beach Comic Expo. “Our goal with C3 is to help build an event that can further the careers of comic book professionals at every stage in their career.”
“C3 is about building and strengthening the comics industry from the bottom to the top, and the high-level professionals that have agreed to participate share and support this vision, which is the first step in making this event successful for everyone involve” says Kristen Simon, Director of Programming for Long Beach Comic Expo.

4:00pm – 4:45pm Keynote
5:00pm – 8:00pm Breakout Sessions
8:15pm – 8:45pm Q & A Panel, Closing Remarks
8:45pm – 9:30pm Reception
Topics to be covered include developing properties for other mediums, and how to negotiate the ins and outs of the process. Networking opportunities will be plentiful throughout the day and at a casual happy hour event. Tickets to this event (which includes a hosted bar and small plate food items) are $20 and can be purchased here.
