Here’s the map for the show floor, where it’s always been…

3A (on the far right) will be closed off from BookCon, while 3D and 3E will be off-limits until the weekend?  I’m not certain what the red and green booths mean…  Ah…  Red is “Unbound”…what we in the biz call “sidelines”…non-book merchandise which appeals to bibliophiles. Green is “BookCon”, which I’ll cover in a separate post. The areas marked “Shipping” and “ABA Member Lounge” will not be used for BookCon. That big empty space to the left of Unbound will be open… here’s hoping ReedPop adds tables and food vendors there.

Exhibitors

BookExpo lists 43 exhibitors under “Comics/Graphic Novels”. Some are dedicated publishers, like DC Comics; some have a dedicated imprint, like Lerner; some are art book publishers or national trade organizations. Of course, the major publishers like Abrams, Random House, Norton will also have graphic novel imprints, but they’re not listed under this category. It’s a small show that’s not crowded. I recommend visiting all of the booths during the show, and asking the exhibitors if they have any graphic novels in their catalog. You never know what you might find.

Autographing

There are two types: table autographing (in the back, with the long lines) and booth autographing (at the publisher’s booth on the sales floor). Some will require tickets, although the publishers will also schedule a booth signing that’s first-come. BookExpo lists 384 events, some of which will be duplicated, either table/booth, or appearances each day. There’s no real easy way to find them…I load the entire list, then browse by names. If you visit a publisher’s booth early in the day (recommended, as they will also have swag), they will inform you of scheduled events, some of which will not appear on the BookExpo website. (For example: Image Comics.) Hmmm…BookExpo does allow one to search by category! Here are the graphic novel events!  NOTE: Publishers decide what to give out for free. It could be a signed poster, it could be an Advance Reader Copy, it could be an actual paperback or hardcover! Whatever it is, be gracious.
