Despite a few hiccups along the road, including having to swap out Danny Boyle for Cary Joji Fukunaga behind the director’s chair, and enlisting Phoebe Waller-Bridge to “punch the script up”, the latest Daniel Craig-starring James Bond adventure is a go…and today, the cast and crew held a live-stream to reveal some key-details about the film.
But don’t get too excited, they still haven’t unveiled the title of the thing, which is largely pretty meaningless anyway, as in recent years Eon Productions has stopped adapting Ian Fleming works in favor of original scripts. Sometimes that works wonderfully (Skyfall), sometimes it doesn’t (Spectre), but what is Bond if not a fairly inconsistent franchise anyway? At least the invisible car is gone.
Anyway, Bond 25 as we’ll keep calling it…it’ll have four credited screenwriters, the usual 007 duo of Neil Purvis and Robert Wade, Scott Z. Burns, and Waller-Bridge, the latter of whom’s Fleabag is one of the best shows you can watch on Amazon Prime right now. As for the cast, the villain (at least according to early reports) will be played by Oscar-winner Rami Malek, fresh off his role as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, other newcomers include Ana de Armas, Billy Magnussen, Dali Benssalah. Lashana Lynch and David Dencik. For the returning cast, Lea Seydoux, returns as Dr. Madelaine Swann, Ben Whishaw is back as Q, Ralph Fiennes as M and Naomie Harris as Miss Moneypenny, Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter (who hasn’t been seen since Quantum of Solace), and Rory Kinnear as Bill Tanner.
And that’s all we know, though there was a report this morning that Christoph Waltz was returning as Blofeld, but no mention of that here…perhaps a bust, perhaps something that’s going to be revealed later when the title drops. Who knows? Bond 25 hits theaters on April 2020.
Here’s Malek saying a few words:

And a synopsis too:

Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica.  His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.
