The CW has released a new trailer for the upcoming second season of Batwoman, formally introducing Javicia Leslie‘s new character, Ryan Wilder, as the new hero of Gotham City.

The new footage finds those close to Kate Kane reeling from her sudden disappearance. Kate’s step-sister, Catherine (Elizabeth Anweis), seems driven to take up her sister’s mantle, which Luke Fox (Camrus Johnson) argues against. After Ryan Wilder discovers the Batwoman suit washed ashore, she wrestles with deciding to become Gotham’s new protector, before finally donning the suit to stop Alice (Rachel Skarsten)’s latest scheme.

Also debuting in the trailer is what appears to be a new Batmobile, themed around Batwoman’s distinctive red-and-black suit (and somewhat reminiscent of the ’60s George Barris-designed TV series Batmobile’s color scheme).

Leslie stepped into the role of Batwoman after previous series star Ruby Rose announced her departure from the series after the end of its first season. The introduction of Ryan Wilder into the Batsuit makes Batwoman the second CW superhero series (after Black Lightning) to feature a lead character of color, and the first to feature a woman of color in the starring role.
