In a new camera test posted to Vimeo, The Batman and The Batman Part II director Matt Reeves has revealed the sequel has been delayed until February 18, 2028. The film, which began shooting earlier this year, was previously set to arrive on October 1, 2027.

Per Deadline, the film was pushed back after Warner Bros. delayed The Great Beyond (the latest film by Reeves’s friend and longtime collaborator, J.J. Abrams) from November 13, 2026, to October 2027. This turbulence is presumably a result of the Paramount-Warner Bros. merger, with Paramount planning to release Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol on November 13. Ironically, the merger, which had been intended for completion this fall, is facing trouble of its own, with multiple state attorney generals and the WGA now suing to stop it.

Little is officially known about The Batman Part II, which will now arrive nearly six years after its 2022 predecessor, although it is confirmed the film will take place shortly after the first film, during winter. Robert Pattinson will reprise the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne, and is seen in the camera test wearing a slightly modified Batsuit, with longer ears. Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, Colin Farrell, and Jayme Lawson will also return as Jim Gordon, Alfred Pennyworth, Oz Cobb/The Penguin, and Mayor Bella Reál, while new cast members include Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry, and Sebastian Koch.

Despite the lack of confirmation, it’s been heavily reported Sebastian Stan is playing Harvey Dent, Johansson is his wife Gilda, and Dance is portraying his father Christopher. If true, The Batman Part II‘s new release date will be an appropriate one, as it will arrive nearly 20 years after The Dark Knight reinterpreted Dent’s tragic transformation into Two-Face to critical acclaim. Zoë Kravitz is not expected to return as Catwoman/Selina Kyle, although 2024’s HBO spin-off series, The Penguin, hinted at her returning to Gotham.

In the meantime, the next DC movie, Clayface (which boasts Reeves as an executive producer), will take viewers to the Gotham of the new main DCU, and the next one after, Man of Tomorrow, will hit theaters on July 9, 2027. Season two of Batman: Caped Crusader (executive produced by Reeves and Abrams, among others) will also be released on Prime Video on Friday, July 31.
