I guess I missed this when it was first announced, but Marvel is putting out an English version of Avengers: Zombies Assemble by Yusaku Komiyama (Ixion Saga). It’s a manga version of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes as zombies, because EVERYONE LOVES ZOMBIES. The original was published on MangaBox, a Japanese mobile platform.
Jim Zub is adapting the US version, and the adaptation will include variant covers by Greg Horn, David Nakayama, Greg Land, Nic Klein and even Tony Moore (The Walking Dead).
“The original manga was a huge hit when it was originally released in Japan,” says Marvel SVP Sales & Marketing David Gabriel. “It is very exciting to be able to bring this story to an entirely new audience that may never have gotten to experience it otherwise.”
This is an interesting deal to me for a few reasons – it’s cheap successful content that expands Marvel’s audience. In addition, several people have been telling me that mobile comics (WebToon, MangaBox etc) are something to watch in 2017.
The storyline seems to involve….the Avengers fighting zombies. This isn’t rocket science, people.
