Make sure to stock up on snacks and use the bathroom before you see Avengers: Endgame. The newest installment in the MCU hits theaters April 26 and many fans have speculated how long the final battle against Thanos will be. Just one month before we can see for ourselves, IGN is reporting that the film will be more than three hours long.
IGN‘s source for this information is the AMC Theaters landing page for Avengers: Endgame. The total running time for the film is listed as 3 hours, 2 minutes; as of Monday evening, Disney has not confirmed this information, but we think it’s safe to assume that AMC is telling the truth. That said, this would make Endgame the longest film in the MCU to date.
“This is a culmination film of 22 movies, it’s a lot of storytelling to work into it. Emotion is an intrinsic part of that to us,” the Russos told Collider in February. “When you have to tell a really complicated story and you want strong emotional moments with the characters, it just requires a certain amount of real estate. This one, in particular, feels like three hours worth of real estate.”
Since Endgame introduces Carol Danvers to the Avengers and wraps up what’s come to be known as the Infinity Saga, a longer runtime makes sense. However, there’s still plenty to come after Thanos is defeated — so how long will future MCU movies be?

  1. Four minutes longer than “The Godfather.” Time to bring back something called the intermission!
Roger Ebert: “No good movie is too long and no bad movie is short enough.”
