Next month, Skybound Entertainment will release Arcade Kings #1. The first issue of the new action/adventure series comes from the creative team of writer/artist Dylan Burnett, colorists Walter Baiamonte and Sara Antonellini, and letterers AndWorld Design. The series follows a young video gamer as he faces challenges in a new city and reckons with his past. Today Skybound has released a new preview for the series’ debut issue, which introduces series protagonist Joe and his fighting family.

Here’s how Skybound describes Arcade Kings #1:

Joe, a mysterious new face in Infinity City, has suddenly become the hottest new player at the Round House arcade. Anyone can challenge him, but no one can win. Joe’s secret past is about to catch up to him when his most formidable challenge yet rolls into town, forcing Joe to combo his powers with a joystick, his fists… and his fighting family legacy.

Along with a main cover by Burnett & Baiamonte, Arcade Kings #1 will also sport variant covers by Corey Lewis (open-to-order), Jordan Gibson (1:10 incentive), and a limited color version of the main cover by Burnett (1:15 incentive). The issue will also be available with a blank sketch cover.

Back when the series was first announced, Skybound editor Amanda LaFranco expressed the publisher’s enthusiasm at bringing the book to readers:

“Get ready to rumble! I cannot wait for readers to get their hands on Arcade Kings. Along with some incredible action and unique characters, Dylan has been able to weave a compelling story about family, brotherhood, and going all-in for the people you love. But really, it’s just flat-out fun! Both Walter and Sara’s colors are elevating each page with a vibrancy and emotion that’s inspired by our favorite classic arcade games, but for any fan of epic fights and general awesomeness.”

Check out the new preview of the series’ first issue, as well as the variant covers by Lewis, Gibson, and Burnett, below. The 48-page, prestige-bound Arcade Kings #1 (of 5) is due out in stores and digitally on Wednesday, May 17th. The preorder cutoff date for the issue is Monday, April 24th.
