Anime Midwest is coming up July 5-7, 2019 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in the suburbs of Chicago, bringing a strong line-up of comic book artists and writers, anime voice actors, and musical artists from Japan.
Over 15,000 fans of anime, comics, and science-fiction are expected to attend the event, with many attending in cosplay.
Here’s what you can look forward to at Anime Midwest:

WAX the World Anisong Exhibition

With the largest lineup of musical artists for this type of convention in the Midwest, Anime Midwest features Aurelio Voltaire, Steam Powered Giraffe, V is for Villains, Lia, Zwei, Fuki, as well as FEMM, Ladybeard, and Reika Saiki. Tickets to all concert performances are included with weekend passes to the convention, and don’t cost anything extra.

The ConSweet(TM)

Every single person attending Anime Midwest gets an all-access pass to a specially devoted floor of the Hyatt Regency O’hare dedicated to providing free snacks, ramen, and soda. To help you get through the convention filled with energy, Anime Midwest’s ConSweet provides congoers with unlimited rice, ramen, and soda throughout the entire weekend.

Autographs and Appearances

Guests making their first appearance at Anime Midwest include voice actors Steve Blum, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, Yuri Lowenthal, Tara Platt, and Crispin Freeman, in addition to appearances by returning guests such as Greg Ayres and Oscar Seung. Autographs at Anime Midwest are free but may be limited to the first 100 people in line, and to one per person.

Nerdcore Concerts

Anime Midwest also features a strong line-up of Nerdy music concerts, including performances by YTCracker, the progenitor of nerdy rap and the first person to hack into NASA, and Mega Ran. Mega Ran personifies what Hip-Hop should be: Spontaneous, fun, and true. Every album, starting with “Mega Ran” in 2007, conveys a different theme, a different vibe, and a different emotion.

Dances Every Night

Each night of the convention features an amazing dance event with great lights and great music – the Anime Midwest Mud Puddle and Thunderstorm Dance are parties that last all night long. They are the perfect way to get your energy out after loading up on soda in the ConSweet following a long day of shopping in the exhibit hall.

A featured film concert of IA

Virtual artist IA, who has a voice with the VOCALOID 3 library and the CeVIO library, will appear at the convention in a scaled-down film version of her best concert.

VOCAMERICA

VOCAMERICA is a certified Fan-Produced VOCALOID concert event featuring Western VOCALOIDS and Vocal Synths. The project is the creation of Virginia-based VOCALOID producer EmpathP. The goal of VOCAMERICA is to educate and entertain fans of this ever-growing musical phenomenon with emphasis on the more uncommon Western VOCALOIDs. This is achieved through providing live holographic concerts, lectures, and workshops to conventions and expos all over the world.

Hundreds of exhibitors and artists.

The Anime Midwest exhibit hall will feature wall-to-wall vendor booths of anime goods, DVDs, plushies, wall-scrolls, you-name-it, including booths from anime companies such as Funimation, as well as hundreds of your favorite anime artist studios.
