Okay this is a little unusual: AfterShock and comiXology are teaming to offer limited-time exclusive digital connecting covers for several  titles. These digital variants will only be available until May 11th and in a surprise twist, the artist is none other than AfterShock SVP, Digital-Creative Mike Zagari, who has a parallel career as an indie cartoonist. Gabe Eltaeb provides the colors.

Each comics will be released over the course of the next month, but can be pre-ordered now. As we mentioned a few days ago, variant covers appeal to a completist mentality, and here’s a special edition that doesn’t even take up space in your long box.

The books included in the project include  InSEXts #10 (Marguerite Bennett & Ariela Kristantina), Rough Riders: Riders on the Storm #2 (Adam Glass & Patrick Olliffe), Black-Eyed Kids #12 (Joe Pruett & Szymon Kudranski), Shipwreck #4 (Warren Ellis & Phil Hester), Animosity #6 (Marguerite Bennett & Rafael de Latorre), Jackpot! #5 (Ray Fawkes & Georges Duarte), and Captain Kid #5 (Mark Waid, Tom Peyer & Wilfredo Torres).

  1. I don’t get it. How is “owning” these exclusive digital variant covers on Comixology different from being able to access them via a Google image search? On May 11, will Aftershock scrub the Internet of all digital copies of these variant covers, including this very press release?

Also, how best to join up these digital connecting variant covers to appreciate the big image? Get your hands on 7 iPads?

  2. Bizarre. I guess they got some press attention for it for very little expenditure.

Carl – As Dave Sim said about his IDW variants, just print the image out and slip in front of the comic in a protective sleeve and it’s the same as owning the variant without the extra cost or hassle.
