The Addams Family makes its return to comics this October in a new one-shot titled The Addams Family: The Bodies Issue. Writer Zoë Quinn and artist Philip Murphy are teaming up with IDW to bring the spooky troupe back to the media it started in.

Originally appearing in The New Yorker in 1938 from creator Charles Addams, the family has always been a prod at America’s equally bizarre aristocratic class and a huge influence on goth culture, which Quinn adores.

She writes, “As a goth who fell in love with The Addams Family at a young age, it’s a dream come true to write for the iconic, loving family of oddballs. As a comics creator, I’ve really enjoyed being able to play with visual gags and write the most fun dialogue I’ve ever created, too.”

With Quinn on the scripts of this Addams Family comic, readers will see Wednesday Addams react to her discovery of an ancient tome promising “true empowerment to any young woman who indulges in it. Aside from her work here, Quinn is also co-creator of Vertigo’s feminist cyberpunk comic, Goddess Mode, a series we’ve heartily recommended here at The Beat.

Meanwhile, Murphy’s interiors have appeared in Teen Titans Go!, Star Trek vs. Transformers, Star Wars Adventures and even The Powerpuff Girls. He says readers of his upcoming series are in for treat. “The Addams Family is definitely one of those iconic pop culture families that so many people grew up with and love. From Charles Addams’ original New Yorker cartoons to the TV series, movies, and animated series, everybody has their favorites,” says Murphy. “It’s definitely a dream project and I am sure that fans old and new will have a howling good time reading it!”

Check out his reaction, along with his cover for issue #1 below. The Addams Family: The Bodies Issue hits your LCS on October 11 – the same day the movie arrives in theaters.
