One of the year’s biggest comics events is the launch of Catalyst Prime, Lion Forge’s new superhero line. The arrival of a new line of comics created by a diverse line-up of talent behind the page – led by editor Joe Illidge – and with a diverse cast of characters on the page, couldn’t be better timed for today’s comics readers.

The launch has been rolling out with an AR website with stories that reveal more of Catalyst’s premise: a meteor has a near miss with  Earth, but leaves various people with unexplained powers. The story kicked off in print with Catalyst Prime The Event on Free Comic Book Day, and continued with Noble #1 by Brandon Thomas, Roger Robinson and Juan Fernandez which just came out.

And now to get you caught up to speed, courtesy of Lion Forge, here’s the Catalyst Prime kick-off issue from Free Comic Book Day in its entirety. Catalyst Prime: The Event is written by Christopher J. Priest (Deathstroke, Black Panther) and Joseph Phillip Illidge (Solarman), with art by Marco Turini (Secret Wars: Battleworld), Will Rosado and Jessica Kholinne (Secret Wars: Star-Lord & Kitty Pryde)!

The story includes a lot of set-up for the mission to blow up the meteor, as well as the heroic woman behind the mission, industrialist/scientist Lorena Payan. There’s a twist at the end that should be enough to keep you reading the regular books, and that’s all I’ll say.

Enjoy! And let The Beat know if you like it in the comments.
