When you first open Everything Is Fine, you are dazzled by the pretty pastel color palette and serene panels. Even the weird animal heads on every character don’t seem as menacing as they should be because it’s just so pretty. But fairly quickly, you realize things are certainly not fine in this universe. Not even a little bit.

Created by Mike Birchall, the web series is filled with delicious creepiness. Instead of blood and gore horror, we are treated to a different kind of scary where things seem nearly perfect (except the weird animal heads), but just underneath the pink and pale blue surface is a dark, menacing sensation that just makes you feel uneasy. The dialogue seems innocuous until it’s not, and the panels where there is no dialogue at all, where there is just staring, are disturbingly worse. To say it is unsettling is a massive understatement.

The description on the series’ landing page says it all:

“Sam and Maggie are a normal couple, in a normal house, in a normal neighborhood. There is nothing strange about their heads, their neighbors or their sweet little dog. Everything is Fine.”
