Webtoon’s new comic series Dead But Not Gone offers an interesting supernatural thriller and fresh art for fans of the genre. Created and written by Rebecca Schaeffer (Not Even Bones, City of Nightmares) and drawn by Mioko_san, the series offers more than a typical haunted house ghost story.

Read the synopsis here:

When Brian’s family moves into a new house, he’s excited for a fresh start and a new life. He’s not excited to find the house is haunted by Cam, a ghost boy his own age. He’s even less thrilled when Cam decides they’re going to be best friends, and proceeds to interfere in every aspect of his life. But as Cam’s interference gets more and more extreme, Brian realizes that Cam isn’t trying to be part of his life—he’s trying to steal it.

In just the first four episodes, you are thrust into a complicated world for both the living and the dead. Brian’s family dynamic seems complicated as does the deceased Cam’s (seen in flashbacks). When their worlds begin to cross over, it is not certain if they will find a way to coexist or if it will be survival of the fittest, so to speak.

As for the art, it is both cute and light and moody and dark. The style is fluid, but the tones help develop the unsettling atmosphere needed for a good ghost story.
