On Tuesday, February 23rd, 2021, the three lead actors for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming Spider-Man 3 each took to social media to announce a different title for the movie.

Spider-Man 3

On his instagram, Tom Holland, who plays Peter Parker in the MCU, announced that the subtitle for the upcoming Spider-Man movie would be Phone Home. It seems like a plausible enough title: it includes the word “home,” which aligns it nicely with 2017’s Homecoming and 2019’s Far From Home, the subtitles for the two preceding movies.

And in addition to the title, Holland included a picture of Peter, M.J., and Ned.

But that’s not the only Spider-Man 3 actor who announced a title yesterday. Zendaya, who plays M.J., also posted a subtitle on her instagram, Home Slice, along with a different picture of the FOS (that’s “Friends of Spider-Man”). Plus: another franchise cameo for KC Green‘s Question Hound.

And on his instagram, Jacob Batalon, who plays Ned, posted yet another subtitle, Home Wrecker, along with a third picture of the trio.

So what gives? Are any of the three titles accurate? Is this all just a play on the Marvel multiverse? Will the audience get to vote on their choice of the three titles before the trailers run, like in that Futurama episode, “Raging Bender”?

The comments on the Instagram posts only carry the mystery further. On Zendaya’s post, Batalon says, “Okay now this is just ridiculous… we have to talk to Jon,” a reference to director Jon Watts. Meanwhile, Holland’s post earned a remark of “Dood, Barry…” from Mark Ruffalo, another MCU actor who – like Holland – is notorious for having a difficult time keeping Marvel Studio’s precious story secrets.

One thing is for certain: this stunt has gotten the movie plenty of coverage, all with three set pictures that include zero super-suits, no Sinister Six, and not even a sign of J. Jonah Jameson!

Which of the three titles is your favorite – or alternatively, what “home” title would you give the impending threequel? Let us know in the comment section or on social media @comicsbeat! Here at The Beat, we’re pulling for Spider-Man 3: No Place Like Home. Hey, you can’t tell me Kathryn Hahn wasn’t channeling Margret Hamilton when she shrieked her confession about Sparky!

  1. They wouldn’t really solicit the same movie with variant titles would they? That would be like soliciting the same comic with a different cover or some other predatory practice.
