AfterShock Comics has announced 10 Years to Death, a new “One-Shock” comic from writer Aaron Douglas (who also played Galen “Chief” Tyrol on Battlestar Galactica) and artists Cliff Richards and Guy Major. The one-shot is based on the true story of the strange connection between a prison guard and a jailed mass murderer.

Here’s how AfterShock describes 10 Years to Death:

The Shawshank Redemption meets The Sixth Sense, inspired by an eerily bone-chilling true story.

A newly-hired prison guard, a notorious mass murderer finally incarcerated for his crimes, and the death that binds them together. What happens when the murdered becomes the murderer?

In a statement announcing the one-shot, Douglas recalls first hearing the story as a child, and how the tale has stuck with him for all these years:

“This is a story born out of an experience I had as a young boy with one of my uncles and my dad. I snuck to a spot in the house to listen to my uncle relate his tale to my dad. It confused and terrified me at the time and to this day I still have a very creepy feeling inside when I tell it to people. I think it is a fascinating story and whenever I tell it people are enthralled and I want to share it with a wider audience. I hope this can achieve that.”

10 Years to Death will feature a main cover by Richards, as well as an incentive variant cover by Michael Gaydos. Along with the standard $6.99 edition, the 48-page one-shot will also be available as a signed edition, limited to 1,000 copies. That edition will feature the variant cover artwork by Gaydos, and will be signed by Douglas.

For both Douglas and Richards, 10 Years to Death is the latest comics work he’s brought to AfterShock. Both the writer/actor and artist contributed to two volumes of the publisher’s Shock anthology, as well as to last year’s Support Our Shops, a one-shot aimed at helping the direct market during the pandemic.

Check out Gaydos’s cover, as well as a handful of unlettered interior pages from the issue by Richards and Major, below. 10 Years to Death is scheduled to arrive in stores on Wednesday, September 29th.
