A letter of early costume design notes is found. Found via Comics Alliance, where it is pointed out that artist H.G. Peter was 61 years old when tasked with designing this iconic character.

I slapped these two out in a hurry. The eagle is tough to handle as when in perspective or in profile he doesn’t show up clearly — The shoes look like a stenographer’s.

    This was sold in a Heritage auction a few years ago. Not sure what it went for, but if you sign up you can access the archives.
