We’re nearly a quarter of a way into the year and the great gears of Planning for Comic-Con have begun to swing into motion, with the first triumph-or tragedy badge sales come and gone and the exhibitor hotel lottery flown by. While the biggest questions are still “Can I go and will I have to sleep in a culvert?” not much attention has been paid to the guest list that’s been unspooling, but it’s…magnificent. From contemporary comics makers (Eduardo Risso, Marjorie Liu), past masters (Keith Pollard, Joe Staton), authors (Robin Hobb, Brian Selznick), foreign stars (Sonny Liew, Trondheim) – and a strong contingent of more indie types (Box Brown, Simon Hanselmann, Melanie Gillman).
For all the spectacle of Comic-Con in its showbiz glory, it’s still the best comics and pop culture event in North America. Eight waves of guests have been announced thus far – I believe one or two more are forthcoming.
Here’s the complete list – and it’s nearly worth sleeping in a culvert for:

Yes, the proper name for that book is Night, not Knight. That threw me off when doing my combined best of 2016 list.
