Well, not quite new. Today, My Chemical Romance’s former lead singer and DC’s current Young Animal chief visionary Gerard Way updated his webstore with a new “DC’s Young Animal Picture Disc + Comic Book” listing.

Originally released on April 22nd for Record Store Day, this set includes a 12” vinyl with two songs inspired by Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye. These songs, recorded by Way and former MCR guitarist Ray Toro, were originally released during New York Comic Con 2016 on cassette (this writer has still been unable to acquire a cassette player). It also includes a special poster drawn by Doom Patrol artist Nick Derington and most pertinently, a special “Young Animal mixtape” comic that contains a new 3 page original story by Way, Mike Allred, Laura Allred, and Carlos Mangual.

The picture disc printing is limited to 5000 and is priced at $21.98.

Look at how rad this is! A picture disc, a mix-tape comic, a poster. Definitely one of the coolest things I’ve been involved with. Available 4/22/17 I’ll be giving you all a closer look at the artists involved with this over the next few days– stay tuned! Press release: WARNER BROS. A peek inside, and a look at the artists in the Young Animal Record Store Day release: The picture disc itself was created by DCYA designer Paul Rentler @prentler using Michael Avon Oeming’s @oeming art from the series as well as older Cave Carson artwork. The line art for the cover of the Young Animal Mixtape comic is by Doom Patrol series artists and partner of mine @nickderington who also came up with the title of the comic. The coloring was executed by Doom Patrol series colorist Tamra Bonvillain. The Mixtape Comic includes an original 3 page story by @allredmd on line art, Laura Allred on colors, Carlos M. Mangual on lettering, myself writing, and edited by Jamie Rich and Molly Mahan. The rest of the book features the Young Animal creative team’s work on their respective titles and are provided as a sampler. You get a look at all core-4 Young Animal books. And everyone did an amazing job—I love our team! #comics #art #dcyounganimal #dccomics #rsd

  1. And they pretty much flew off the shelves on Record Store day. There are a number of them on Ebay as expected. (and is where my copy is coming from) Don’t expect to find any left in the stores.

Unlike Free Comic Book Day which gives comics out for free, Record Store Day is entirely about limited quantity items to sell, pretty much exclusively on vinyl.
