The much-anticipated X-Men ’97 animated series arrived last week to critical acclaim becoming an instant ratings hit for Disney+ streaming garnering 4 million views in the first five days. It’s a certain much welcome success after recent string of misfires Marvel Studios has suffered in recent years. The third episode arrives tomorrow and by a clip released today it appears fans can look forward to seeing elements of the X-Men Inferno storyline.

As diehard comic fans are well aware, Inferno was an X-Men crossover event that involved the demonic invasion of New York City after Madelyne Pryor, the clone of Jean Grey, was corrupted into the Goblin Queen.

In the years leading up to the X-Men Inferno storyline, Scott Summers aka Cyclops married and had a child with his newfound love Madelyne Pryor. However, after Marvel brought back Jean Grey, Scott basically left his wife and son to reunite with his first love. It goes without saying that doesn’t exactly paint Cyclops in the best light. So the X-Men creators handled the situation retconning Madelyne as a clone of Jean Grey created by Mr. Sinister to produce a child with Scott Summers. Gotta love comics!

Hasbro’s X-Men ’97 action figure line revealed a few months showcased a Goblin Queen figure so fans already expected this classic X-Men story to come into play in the series

A Jean Grey doppelgänger who shakes the X-Men to their core, Goblin Queen becomes a fierce enemy of the X-Men after her mind is corrupted by Mister Sinister.

Official description for the episode “Fire Made Flesh” premiering tomorrow:
