The main word yesterday here was BUSY. Everyone who thought this would be a more chill version of SDCC has found that yesterday, anyway, was more just a scaled down version of SDCC, with giant crowds and lines.

But that’s not a bad thing. Publishers and cartoonists were selling out of things left and right, and there was lots of buzz about comics.

We’ll have a fuller report later.

  1. Not surprised by this. New York Comic-Con sold out for all its days last year for its first time. The popularity of San Diego Comic-Con has made others transition to other Cons, which can be either a good or bad thing depending on your point of view.

What irks me though is the same people who used to pick on us in high school are now attending these “geek” events. I’m sorry but get the heck out; this is supposed to be our fun and I don’t want you invited. I’m sorry by brethren but I can’t help but feel extremely annoyed by this.

  2. I noticed a lot of the people I spoke to said that they came to Wondercon INSTEAD of San Diego. Thay all had thesame complaints about SD. Too many people, too much non-comics content, etc. Never been to SD, but I found WC to be fairly crowded so I can’t even imagine what SD is like. Glad I chose WC.

  3. Just got back from the con. Set up and sold this year after a 2 year lay-off. (I was in the 1300 row. I had great results all around, and will post a report soon. Sorry I didn’t see you there.

  4. I’m thinking a whole lot of people went to WONDERCON this year because they couldn’t get those Sold Out SDCC passes… in a sort of ‘Safety Con’ fallback position.

Esp. all those first-time Comic Convention attendees, who marvelled at HOW CROWDED! Saturday was.

Wait a few years when those mouth-breathers move on to the “next big thing”.

  6. Thanks for the coverage. I wanted to go but couldnt this year – if you have any other coverage or want to do a guest post please let me know. Id love to have some wondercon posts on my comic con related blog
