Four years after it was announced, Insomniac Games has debuted a gory gameplay trailer for their PlayStation 5 exclusive Wolverine game, now set for a Fall 2026 release. The footage dropped during Sony‘s latest State of Play presentation, along with a behind-the-scenes featurette revealing Liam McIntyre (Spartacus, The Flash) donned the performance capture suit for the game’s titular character.

If there were any doubts the game would be rated M (17+), the trailer absolutely extinguishes them, with plenty of blood spilled while Logan stabs-and-slices his way through enemies, and graphically recovers from his injuries (much like the acclaimed 2009 tie-in game for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which marked Logan’s last solo game until this one.) As confirmed on the official PlayStation Blog, the cybernetic Reavers, Omega Red, Mystique, and a prototype Sentinel are among the villains revealed, while locations featured include Madripoor, Canada, and Tokyo.

Insomniac also revealed the game’s key art, designed in collaboration with comic book artist Jock (Savage Wolverine):

Wolverine will arrive three years after Insomniac’s last game, Spider-Man 2. Since that time, the developer suffered a ransomware hack, underwent layoffs, and was struck off by SAG-AFTRA over insufficient protections for actors from AI; founder and CEO Ted Price also retired from the company in March, 31 years after its founding. In any case, hopefully the developers who worked on the game will enjoy knowing fans are finally getting to enjoy the fruit of their labors soon. In the meantime, you can also check out five promotional screenshots for the game below, and see more news from last night’s State of Play here.
