Kinberg, who makes his directorial debut with Dark Phoenix, opens up about his first attempt to tell this epic story as the screenwriter on X-Men: the Last Stand. Dark Phoenix, directed by Simon Kinberg, follows the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse. It focuses on Jean Grey (played by Sophie Turner), a powerful telepath who finds herself losing control of her gifts after a solar flare. Other central cast members include Charles Xavier (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), and Cyclops (Tye Sheridan).
