Back in November, Marvel and SiriusXM announced a partnership to produce both scripted and unscripted podcasts based on Marvel Comics properties and storylines. Today Marvel and Sirius revealed details for the first scripted podcast to come from the arrangement, Marvel’s Wastelanders: Old Man Star-Lord, a ten-episode series that will debut with two episodes on June 1st.

Here’s how Marvel and SiriusXM describe the Marvel’s Wastelanders: Old Man Star-Lord podcast:

In a shadowy alternate future of the Marvel Universe, the Villains have finally won and Heroes are nothing but a bad memory. Marvel’s Wastelanders: Old Man Star-Lord finds Peter Quill and Rocket a little paunchier, a little slower, and a lot saltier than they were during the glory days of the Guardians of the Galaxy. They quickly discover the Earth isn’t what it used to be either, when they crash land 30 years after Doctor Doom takes over a barren, desolate wasteland and all the world’s super villains seized control, including outlaw Ghost Riders and the bloodthirsty Kraven the Hunter.

Here’s a rundown of the cast for the podcast:

  • Timothy Busfield as Star-Lord
  • Chris Elliott as Rocket
  • Nadine Malouf as Cora
  • Patrick Page as Kraven the Hunter
  • Dylan Baker as Doom
  • Vanessa Williams as Emma Frost
  • Danny Glover as Red

Additional cast members include Aasif MandviEric T. Miller, Elizabeth Francis, Quincy Tyler Bernstine, Marylouise Burke, and Blake Stadnik.

Honestly, Timothy Busfield as Peter Quill is inspired casting, and the rest of the great cast (Dylan Baker! Vanessa Williams! Danny flipping Glover!) is just gravy.

Along with the info, Marvel and SiriusXM released a trailer for the podcast series:

Written by Benjamin Percy, directed by Kimberly Senior, and sound-designed and scored by Mark Henry Phillips, Marvel’s Wastelanders: Old Man Star-Lord will kick off a series of Wastelanders podcasts that will also star Old Man Hawkeye, Old Man Logan, and Grey Widow.

In the statement announcing the series, Marvel’s Steve Wacker described the tone of Old Man Star-Lord, and how it sets up the larger Marvel’s Wastelanders arc:

Marvel’s Wastelanders: Old Man Star-Lord is a story that throws you right into the action, antics – and danger – that fans of Star-Lord and Rocket know to expect, and the writers, cast and crew did not hold back. We couldn’t be prouder of how this story came together,” said Stephen Wacker, Vice President and Head of Content, Marvel New Media. “This series is just the first chapter of our larger Marvel’s Wastelanders plans with SiriusXM, and Peter Quill’s story is only the tip of the iceberg for our new Marvel Audio Universe. We can’t wait to share what’s next with you all.”

The first two episodes of Marvel’s Wastelanders: Old Man Star-Lord arrive on Tuesday, June 1st, with new episodes released weekly afterward. A virtual town hall for the show with the cast and creators is also being held this Thursday, May 20th, at 4PM Eastern over Zoom. Fans who wish to attend can register for that event here.
