VIZ Media and Anime NYC, one of New York City’s biggest anime conventions, have announced Yoshifumi Tozuka, the creator of the supernatural action-adventure comedy series Undead Unluck, for their upcoming slate of guests for their November 17-19, 2023 event at the Javits Center in New York City. Anime NYC confirms via their website that “Yoshifumi Tozuka will appear on Friday and Saturday. He will appear on panels and host autograph sessions.”
As far as I can tell, this will be his first N. American convention appearance.
VIZ Media publishes the Weekly Shonen Jump manga series in English as print and digital editions. You can read the manga digitally online or through the official Shonen Jump subscription service, both on the web and via their mobile apps. 176 chapters are currently available, and a new chapter is released every Sunday. Twelve print volumes of the series have been released so far, with volumes thirteen, fourteen, and fifteen all available for pre-order.
The Shinjuku Piccadilly theater in Tokyo will host a world premiere event for the anime adaptation of Undead Unluck on October 1, followed by its broadcast premiere on the MBS/TBS Networks on October 6 in Japan. Hulu has previously announced that they’ll be streaming the series, but has so far only announced that they’ll start airing the series sometime “in October.” The series will run for 24 episodes, divided into two parts, but there has been no news yet of simulcasting on Hulu. Here’s the official trailer from TMS:
Undead Unluck’s official synopsis from VIZ reads:
What happens when an unlucky girl meets an undead guy? Pure chaos!
Tired of inadvertently killing people with her special ability Unluck, Fuuko Izumo sets out to end it all. But when she meets Andy, a man who longs for death but can’t die, she finds a reason to live—and he finds someone capable of giving him the death he’s been longing for.
Anime NYC also provided a brief bio for Yoshifuma Tozuka:
“Yoshifumi Tozuka made his manga debut with the one-shot Uchuu Kankou C-Arc (Cosmic Arc Travel), which was published in Jump Next! in May 2014. Undead Unluck, his first series, began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in January 2020 and is published in English by VIZ.”
Other guests for Anime NYC include several hololive idols such as Fuwawa, Mococo Abyssgard, Biseki Bijou, and Shiori Novella. Kazuki Ura (voice actor for Yoichi Isagi in soccer anime series Blue Lock), the cast of Drawfee, Sarah Natochenny (voice actor for Ash Ketchum in the Pokémon anime series) and Sleepy-C (artist for the manwha series Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint) to name a few. You can check out the full line-up announced so far on Anime NYC’s guest page, and purchase badges to attend this event too.
Anime NYC has a page up for their panel schedule, however the schedule itself has yet to be announced.
