On Tuesday, November 10th, Netflix sent a Tweet announcing that The Umbrella Academy would be returning for a third season, which is excellent news considering how many plotlines were left open at the conclusion of the show’s first-rate sophomore season. Although, judging by the cliffhanger at the end of season two, maybe this should actually be considered the first season of The Sparrow Academy?

Ten hour-long episodes have been ordered for the show’s third season, and filming is expected to begin in February in Toronto, Canada.

The series is based on The Umbrella Academy comics by Gerard WayGabriel BáDave Stewart, and Nate Piekos, which are published by Dark Horse and follow the Hargreeves family, seven adopted siblings with exceptional powers and a whole lot of daddy issues.

The actors who portray the Hargreeves family, Elliot Page (Vanya), Emmy Raver-Lampman (Allison), David Castañeda (Diego), Tom Hopper (Luther), Aidan Gallagher (Number Five), Robert Sheehan (Klaus), Justin H. Min (Ben), and Colm Feore (Reginald) are returning for the show’s third season, with additional actors being announced at a later date.

Behind the scenes, Steve Blackman will continue as show runner, and executive producers will include Jeff F. King, Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, and Jesse McKeown, with Way and Bá returning as co-executive producers.

If you can’t wait for the next season of The Umbrella Academy, Netflix has a little something to tide you over: the addition of Netflix account profile icons featuring the seven Hargreeves siblings (plus one depicting the 1962 version of space-faring chimp Pogo, who is even wearing his adorable astronaut suit).

Are you looking forward to the next season of The Umbrella Academy? Will season three continue the tradition of superb title cards and extremely engaging cold opening sequences? Which one of the Hargreeves sibling icons are you planning on using for your profile until the third season premieres (or is a rotation of icons in the offing)?
