Of the Top Comics to Buy for February 15, a majority of them are hard to classify as one genre. What exactly would you call Danger Street #3? There’s superheroes, but it’s far from a superhero book. Frank Miller Presents Pandora #2 is a horror-tinged teen story, sort of, but that feels simplistic. And I don’t even know where to start with 3Keys.

But hey, that kind of fluid use of genre made for great books. Check out the full lists below…enjoy!

Top Comics to Buy for February 15, 2023

3Keys #5
Writer/Artist: David Messina
Color Assists: Alessandra Alexakis
Letterer: Shawn Lee
Publisher: Image Comics
Bearing the weight of grief and betrayal, Noah and Theon find themselves a weakened but final bulwark against the Great Old Ones in this concluding clash with a giant kaiju in the heart of Manhattan! Cover-to-cover action courtesy of DAVID MESSINA!
Why It’s Cool:
One of the most stylish comics of the year, 3Keys finale delivers all kinds of great-looking giant sword-swinging action. This book was a lot of fun, incorporating comics retail and blurred lines around the nature of reality, two things that always tickle my fancy in direct market books.
Price: $3.99

A Foulness in the Walls #1 (one-shot)
Writer: Cullen Bunn
Artist: Rodrigo Zayas
Colorist: Lorenzo Scaramella
Letterer: Dave Sharpe
Publisher: AfterShock Comics
After a tragic loss, George hopes to rebuild his life. He moves to a new house. He gets a new job. He starts dating the girl of his dreams. Sometimes, though, guilt can be as malevolent as an evil spirit. Sometimes, ghosts follow you. Something is rotting in the walls of George’s new house. Something hungry.
Why It’s Cool:
I have never thought of this before, but smell is sort of an underused sense in horror stories. Horror is maybe predominantly visual, with sound in movies playing an outsized role. But aside from a character scrunching their nose at a dead body, I can recollect few horror stories that make effective use of smell — enter A Foulness in the Walls #1. Almost all of the horror in this one is done by evoking ones sense of smell, and the result is a horror story that feels new and effective. Do yourself a favor and pickup this prestige horror one-shot.

Danger Street #3
Writer: Tom King
Artist: Jorge Fornes
Colorist: Dave Stewart
Letterer: Clayton Cowles
Publisher: DC Comics
The repercussions of Atlas the Great’s death play out worlds away as two old enemies become allies in the fight to save the Multiverse. Meanwhile, Lady Cop continues her search for Good Looks’ killer, the disgraced hero Starman. Little does she know, the fugitive is on his way to the City of Angels to make a deal with the devil. Will his sacrifice be enough to set things right?
Why It’s Cool: I would recommend this one on the strength of Jorge Fornes’ Fourth World art alone, but there’s so much more to like about this one. If you like the odd nooks and corners of the DC Universe, this is absolutely the book for you. If you like complex and smart comics storytelling, ditto. It’s a high bar, but this is shaping up to be some of the best work Tom King has so far written, making it an easy choice for our Top Comics to Buy for February 15.

Frank Miller Presents Pandora #2
Writers: Frank Miller, Anthony Maranville, and Chris Silvestri
Art/Colors: Emma Kubert
Letters: Pete Carlsson
Publisher: Frank Miller Presents
As Annabeth and Knox’s relationship grows stronger, evil from the Other Realm continues to seep into our world.  But Annabeth’s discovery of an ancient relic reveals the explosive link between the two worlds.
Why It’s Cool:
There’s a lot to like here, but I think my favorite part of this book is watching the star turn from Emma Kubert, who is just absolutely crushing this book. Kubert’s work shows great control and range, along with great storytelling flare. And the rest of the book is well-done too. It’s one of those books where it’s hard to tell where things are headed in the best way.

I Am Batman #18
Writer: John Ridley
Artist: Christian Duce, Eduardo Pansica, and Julio Ferreira
Colorist: Rex Lokus
Letterer: Troy Peteri
Publisher: DC Comics
Jace Fox is on the most urgent mission of his tenure as Batman: to save the life of his mother. At war with the domestic terror group called the Moral Authority, Jace fights a relentless battle alongside his sister Tiffany and a new hero who bridges DC’s past, present, and future as I Am Batman comes to a spectacular and emotional close.
Why It’s Cool:
I have absolutely loved this series through the entirety of the run, during which we’ve seen Jace Fox, a Black man, take the mantle of Batman in New York City, learning as he goes while also dealing with personal revelations. It all nicely comes to a head in this finale, that leaves Jace with an interesting status quo. The main question you are likely to be left with from this book, is when and how will we see these characters again? Kudos to this entire team on a great 18-issue run.
