Archie gets an art exhibit tonight at MoCCA in a show that runs through February:

Welcome to Riverdale! Join the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art – MoCCA in celebrating the world of Archie Comics, one of the oldest and most beloved family-friendly brands in the comic book industry. Thrill to the exploits of Archie Andrews and his friends, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, Reggie and the rest. And don’t be surprised if you see a cameo from Josie and the Pussycats, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and some of Archie Comics’ other supporting players. This exhibition features pages and pages of rare and unpublished comic art, animated cartoons, gold record winning music, as well as vintage house ads, news clippings, custom collectibles, toys and other merchandise from Archie’s 65 plus years as America’s eternal teenager.

November 19, 2009-February 28, 2010

  1. That press release reads as though it was written by someone at Archie Comics. If that’s true, I fear that you won’t find Dan DeCarlo’s name anywhere in the entire exhibit.

  2. I received a postcard of this event in my last batch of Archie comps. There aren’t any artists’ names listed on the postcard. So, I’m not sure whose work will be shown or who might be attending (I won’t be there). Seems like an odd thing to not mention for an art gallery event.

  3. Heidi it was great to meet you last night. I have loved The Beat for years and was thrilled to see you make the show.

As for my buddy Al Nickerson – the post card IS the invite!

We only had all the selected art finalized this past week. The post cards were printed weeks ago before any art was settled. MoCCA did a great job and will continue to up date all the art with proper credits and other finishing touches.

This was great for all the talent working on Archie past and present… and especially for all the generations of readers!

Thank you to all the wonderful people who made the opening reception last night!!

  4. As a volunteer who was around while the show went up, I can’t recall the names of ALL the artists included (the show does cover 7 decades and several Archie Comics properties after all), but I can assure you that Dan DeCarlo is indeed very well represented in the show.
