Another tour stop featuring a reading and a signing by John Porcellino and Patrick Porter. In case you aren’t familiar with Porcellino’s work, Entertainment Weekly has called him a “master of miniature poignance,” and Chris Ware has said that his comics distill “in just a few lines and words, the feeling of simply being alive.”

New York, NY – Big Apple Comic-Con

Wizard hosts a three-day convention, with lots of big name guests, including Joe, Adam and Andy Kubert, Joe Quesada, Jim Lee, Joe Simon, Jim Steranko, Mike Allred, Neal Adams and Joe Madureira. Also appearing are William Shatner, Yogi Berra, Ric Flair and “Smokin'” Joe Frazier … hopefully in preparation for some sort of super team-up project. Admission to Saturday is $35, with Friday and Sunday priced at $30, and a three-day pass at $50. Prices are five bucks cheaper if you order online.

A small crew of Pixar animators, including UP co-director Bob Peterson, production designer Ricky Nierva and art director Jason Deamer will make the short trip from Emeryville to the Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa to answer audience and talk about creating animated characters for the big screen.

This intimate and interactive session will include a reading by Darwyn Cooke from the original text of Richard Stark’s THE HUNTER, which he recently adapted into a graphic novel, with corresponding images from the graphic novel projected as backdrop. Cooke will be available immediately afterwards to sign copies of his work. Admission is $10, and seating is limited to 75.

Convention season continues in San Francisco, where the Alternative Press Expo gets underway at The Concourse in San Francisco after moving to the fall in 2008. Special guests include Jamaica Dyer, Phoebe Gloeckner, Dean Haspiel, Batton Lash, Lark Pien, Dash Shaw and Jeff Smith. The show starts at 11 AM both days and runs until 7 PM on Saturday and 6 PM on Sunday. Admission is $10 for one day or $15 for both days. Comics retailers and 22009 Comic-Con attendees get in for free!

EXURBIA creators Scott Allie and Kevin McGovern continue their west coast tour with a stop at Comics Dungeon, where they will be joined by GOTHIC CHARM SCHOOL creators, writer Jillian Venters and artist Peter Venters.
