Marvel Studios has unexpectedly released the teaser trailer for the Thunderbolts* movie, due out in theaters May 2, 2025.

Directed by Jake Schreier (Beef), Thunderbolts* brings together Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, Olga Kurylenko, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus‘s characters from Black Widow, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and more. In this one Louis-Dreyfus’s nefarious CIA director Contessa Valentina “Val” Allegra de Fontaine is forming a new team consisting of the MCU’s darker, shadier heroes – provided they can work together to survive long enough, of course.

The trailer begins with a pair of extended scenes, namely Pugh’s Yelena Belova checking in on her adoptive father Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (Harbour) and talking about how empty her post-Black Widow life of contracts feel. Soon enough, she encounters US Agent (Russell), Ghost (John-Kamen), and Taskmaster (Kurylenko) in an apparent trap, after embarking on what they seemingly believed to be a rescue mission for “Bob” (Lewis Pullman).

Bob happens to be Bob Reynolds, aka the Sentry, one of the most powerful superheroes in the Marvel Universe. Created by Paul Jenkins, Jae Lee, and an uncredited Rick Veitch for his own series in 2000, Bob is generally a liability and as much of a danger to others as a hero, but time will tell as to whether he’ll be a friend or foe in this.

We also get brief glimpses of Mel (Geraldine Viswanathan), Val’s aide-de-camp, as the Contessa is revealed to be the new group’s mastermind. It’s all capped off by seemingly revealing how Stan’s Bucky crosses paths with Yelena et al., as he comes to save/apprehend the group while they’re being rescued by her father.

Thunderbolts* releases May 2, in-between Captain America: Brave New World (out February 14) and The Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25, 2025). As previously disclosed by Kevin Feige, viewers will have to watch the movie to find out why there’s an asterisk in the title. In the meantime, please also check out the teaser poster, featuring the main cast (including Pullman’s Bob) having a grand old time:
