The winners of the 2023 Ringo Awards were announced last weekend at Baltimore Comic Con. Winners were picked by a ballot vote of comics industry professionals.

Some notable mentions from the 2023 Ringo Awards include:

  • Kate Beaton and her graphic memoir Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands (Drawn & Quarterly) holds course as THE award juggernaut of 2023, winning Beaton both the Best Non-Fiction Comic Work and Best Cartoonist categories in this year’s Ringo Awards.
  • Up-and-comer Zoe Thorogood continues to add plaudits. Having already received the Russ Manning Most Promising Newcomer Award at this year’s Eisners, her original autobio It’s Lonely At The Center of the Earth (Image Comics) received the 2023 Ringo for Best Original Graphic Novel
  • A surprise tie in the lettering category yielded two winners: Stan Sakai and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou
  • Rachel Smythe‘s Lore Olympus (WEBTOON) holds strong with a second consecutive Ringo Award win for Best Webcomic (adding to probably an entire shelf of other trophies by now); another consecutive Ringo Award Winner is James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera‘s horror series Something Is Killing the Children (BOOM! Studios) for Best Series two years running
  • Chris and Laura Samnee‘s all ages title Jonna and the Unpossible Monsters (Oni Press) received Best Kids Comic or Graphic Novel and Best Single Issue or Story 2023 Ringo Award categories, adding to their Mike Wieringo Spirit Award in 2022.
