Next week Dark Horse Comics will release The Unbelievable Unteens #4, the final issue of the Black Hammer spin-off miniseries. Written by Jeff Lemire and illustrated & lettered by Tyler Crook, the series has followed the reawakening and reunion of a team of forgotten Spiral City superheroes. Today The Beat is pleased to present an exclusive preview of the conclusion of the miniseries.

Here’s how Dark Horse describes The Unbelievable Unteens #4:

Unbelievable Unteens comic book artist Jane Ito finds her world turned upside down after discovering her comic book creations were real and she was one of them. As she and the Unteens reunite and put the pieces together they take on the forces that disbanded them for one final fight.

Unteens is the latest Black Hammer-related project from Lemire & Crook. The team has previously collaborated on the four-issue Colonel Weird: Cosmagog miniseries. The conclusion of the series will leave Black Hammer Reborn, written by Lemire, lettered by Nate Piekos, and illustrated by the alternating teams of Caitlin Yarsky & Dave Stewart and Malachi Ward & Matthew Sheean, as the only currently-running Black Hammer-related title from Dark Horse. Lemire has also teased a new series set in the world of Black Hammer that will be released via his paid Substack newsletter.

As with previous Black Hammer spin-offs, Unteens reveals another new side to the universe of the series, looking at fandom and what it’s like to be a comic book creator in a world of actual superheroes. The series also presents an entertaining pastiche of a certain group of marvelous mutants, and all rendered gloriously by Crook’s spectacular watercolor artwork.
