Marvel Comics has announced the return of the superhero bursting with the power of a million exploding suns. The publisher will launch a new The Sentry miniseries later this year. The series will come from the creative team of writer Jason Loo and artist Luigi Zagaria, and picks up following the apparent death of the character during The King in Black. The first issue of the series sports a cover by Ben Harvey. No other members of the creative team were named in the announcement.

Here’s how Marvel describes the new Sentry series:

WHO WILL BE THE NEW SENTRY? The Sentry is dead, but ordinary people all over the world are suddenly manifesting his powers and experiencing snippets of Bob Reynolds’ memories. But not everyone can be trusted with such responsibility, sparking a violent conflict to control the Sentry’s legacy. Will one of them survive long enough to emerge as the new Sentry? Or will their newfound power destroy them? When Misty Knight and Jessica Jones cross paths in search of answers, they open an investigation that will change everything you think you know about the Sentry!

The new series is the latest Marvel Comics work from writer Jason Loo, who has written a number of digital series for Marvel Unlimited. It’s the first teaming of Loo and artist Luigi Zagaria, who has done fill-in work on series like Miles Morales: Spider-Man and Deadpool for Marvel.

The Sentry has been a major force in the Marvel Universe since his creation by Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee in 2000. The character’s most recent solo series from writer Jeff Lemire and artists Joshua Cassara and Kim Jacinto saw Bob Reynolds merge the Sentry and Void aspects of himself into one being. His death during the King in Black event saw Knull absorb The Void, so whether that will be a part of this new series remains to be seen.

In a statement announcing the series, writer Jason Loo elaborated on some of the themes he’s looking to explore:

“This new chapter of the Sentry has an intriguing concept: on top of all the responsibilities and struggles a single person has to deal with in their everyday life, can one also handle the power of a MILLION EXPLODING SUNS?” Loo said. “It’s a fun opportunity for me to create new characters that readers can see themselves in and bestow them these earth-shaking powers.”

Look for The Sentry #1 (of 4) to arrive in stores and digitally on Wednesday, December 6th.
