We’ve been noticing the new Ben 10 comics book series appearing high on the available sales charts, and now publisher Dynamite is taking a victory lap.
Since launching this spring, issues 1-5 of Ben 10 has sold over 500,000 copies to retailers and readers in FOC orders, Dynamite announced today, a significant number for a non Big Two comic. We’re told initial orders on the upcoming hard cover and paperback collection are also strong.
The secret of the success is (IMHO) hitting the sweet spot of nostalgia for the title AND bringing back the original creators: Joe Casey, Steven T. Seagle, Duncan Rouleau, and Joe Kelly, who co-created Ben 10 via their Man of Action shingle, have all been involved with the comic, with Casey and Seagle writing the book, and Rouleau doing covers on each issue – and there are more contributions to come.
The series continues to blast on, with a special Ben 10 Creator Files behind the scenes issue in stores on October 7. Issue #6 comes out on 11/4, with Casey writing once again and there’s a free poster by Rouleau that coems with all the main covers for the issue. That same day the first collection (comprising issues #1-5) hits stores.
As comics sales remains at a high level in the Absolute Era, it’s not just DC getting the benefit. That rising tide is raising a lot of ships, and the Ben 10 comic has definitely landed at the irght place and the right time to take advantage of both the origianl cartoon’s huge audience, and new kids who are just discovering it – and it doesn’t hurt that the comic is pretty good.

Ben 10 is part of Dynamite’s ongoing llcensingpartnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products.
