Square Enix, the publisher of gaming franchises like Hitman and Tomb Raider announced a new partnership with Marvel that will see multiple games based on the characters from the house of ideas. In a brief teaser released today, it was revealed that the first studios to work on these properties would be Crystal Dynamics (Tomb Raider) and Eidos Montreal (Deus Ex) in a new game tentatively called The Avengers Project.

The teaser points to a game based on cinematic universe Avengers, or at the very least their lineup of the team. Thor’s hammer, Captain America’s shield, even Bruce Banner’s glasses can be seen in the video. While The Avengers Project may be based on a lineup parallel to what moviegoers know, the game’s story will be completely original packed with characters and environments longtime fans will recognize.  Square Enix followed up the video with only a sliver of information pointing to a 2018 reveal of the game along with the possibility of more titles.

Marvel character based video games will be undergoing a resurgence in the next few years as Telltale Games is releasing Guardians of the Galaxy, Insomniac Games (Ratchet&Clank) are developing the new Spider-Man exclusively for PlayStation 4, and Capcom recently announced a new chapter in the popular fighting game series Marvel vs Capcom.

Square Enix themselves are no strangers to working with Disney things in the Kingdom Hearts series of games that blends all things Disney with the Final Fantasy series.
