2018’s God Of War became one of the fastest selling PlayStation 4 exclusives for the console. It’s a game which took the one-note character of Kratos and put the savage Spartan in a compelling narrative that will go down as one of this generation’s best video game stories. Tuesday, Dark Horse Comics showed off a piece of art and listed the creative team for their upcoming God of War comics mini-series.
Writer Chris Roberson (iZombie, Witchfinder) and artist Tony Parker (Mayday, This Damned Band) will tell a story taking place before the events of Sony Santa Monica’s acclaimed video game. In this God of War min-series, Kratos finds himself in the Norse woods following his war with the Greek gods of Olympus. Seeking to live as a man at peace, he sparks a feud with a mysterious cult of berserkers after attempting to save a stranger being mauled by a monstrous bear.
In case you haven’t played God of War. The game is a continuation and reimagining of Kratos, a Spartan warrior tricked by the gods of Olympus into killing his own family. It took three games of junk food action murdering to complete his quest for vengeance. The 2018 game put the character into an unfamiliar world of Norse mythology. When his wife passes away, Kratos is left as a single dad to care for young Atreus, a boy who’s never bonded with his father. The two go on a journey to fulfill his wife’s last wish which turns into a harrowing journey into other realms and lays the foundation of an intriguing mystery.
Since the comics series will take place before the game’s events, we’re likely to meet the Norse mother of Kratos son in these pages and it could fill in many of the game’s lingering questions about the Loki prophecy and how the Norse gods first became aware of the ghost of Sparta in their world?
God Of War the comics series will go on sale November 14, 2018. God of War the video game is currently available for exclusively for PlayStation 4.
