The most recent The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries miniseries just wrapped up its 12-issue run this past week, with a story in which the Mystery Inc. gang gets ‘Futurama-ed’ into the world of Batman Beyond. Though that glimpse of the future may have been the end of that series, you can’t keep good detectives down for long. DC will bring The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries back in January 2024, this time as an ongoing series.

Scooby-Doo and the gang have been teaming up with the denizens of the DC Universe since the launch of Scooby-Doo Team-Up in 2013. That series wrapped in 2019, and was followed by a pair of twelve-issue The Batman and Scooby-Doo Mysteries miniseries. As in previous series, The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries will see Mystery Inc. interacting with heroes and villains from the extended Bat-Family. Across the first three issues of the series the gang will team with Nightwing to investigate a haunting at Haly’s Circus, wade through the muck of Slaughter Swamp with Solomon Grundy, and match wits with the feline fatale, Catwoman.

Among those working on the new ongoing series will be returning creators like writers Sholly Fisch, Ivan Cohen, Amanda Deibert, and Matthew Cody, and artists Dario Brizuela and Scott Jeralds. New creators will also be joining the mix, including writer J. Torres and artist Megan Huang

“After two twelve-issue limited series, not to mention fifty issues of Scooby-Doo Team-Up, you might think we’d run out of ideas,” writer Sholly Fisch told The Beat. “But with Scooby’s fifty-year history, plus eighty years of Batman, we’re just getting started! The new series will bring Scooby and the gang face to face with even more of Batman’s friends and foes, as the caped crusaders and meddling kids tackle a brand-new array of spooky mysteries.”

“Sholly and I have pulled almost every scrap of inspiration there is to find in our common childhood touchstone of the classic hardcover Batman: From the Thirties to the Seventies,” added writer Ivan Cohen. “So, I’m moving on to some deep-cut Bronze Age favorites of mine making some guest appearances, many meeting Scooby and friends for the first time. And I have one issue that crosses elements of the Tom King Batman with the John Byrne era of Superman in ways no one is expecting.”

Fisch went on to tease even more about the series’s upcoming stories. “The circus where Nightwing grew up—haunted by Deadman? A museum of giant bowling pins and pinball machines robbed—by a giant? You might be used to Batman perching among gargoyles…but what happens when Gotham’s citizens start turning into gargoyles themselves? And those are just my stories! I can’t wait to see what Ivan, Matthew, and Amanda have in store too. But one thing’s for sure: You’ll find thrills, laughs, and Scooby snacks aplenty in the all-new Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries!”

Look for The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries to return to shelves with an all-new #1 on Tuesday, January 2nd, 2024.
