Dark Horse has announced Tear Us Apart, a new romance action-adventure miniseries for September – and it promises to be bloody. The four-issue series is cowritten by actor Jay Baruchel (How to Train Your Dragon) and writer Van Jensen, with illustrator and colorist Alessandro Micelli, and Taylor Esposito lettering.

Tear Us Apart

Here’s how Dark Horse describes Tear Us Apart:

“Deep in the Canadian wilderness, a vicious cult, dedicated to an ideology of pain, trains children to become deadly assassins. In the midst of this world of cruelty, two teenagers break the cardinal rule—by falling in love. The only thing standing between them and happily ever after is an army of murderers with a taste for blood.”

Tear Us Apart is the first Dark Horse comics work for Jay Baruchel, and the actor’s latest foray into writing comics. Baruchel has previously written stories for anthologies from DC, including DC’s Crimes of Passion and DC’s Very Merry Multiverse, and Marvel, including Deadpool: Black, White, & Blood and Avengers Halloween Special. It’s a return to Dark Horse for Van Jensen, who wrote the six-issue Cryptocracy miniseries (with artist Pete Woods), released in 2016.

In a statement announcing the new series, Van Jensen described the story he and Baruchel have set out to write:

“This comic is a love letter to the 1990s. A story we can all relate to: A boy and a girl meet and fall in love, and the only thing between them and a happy ending is a horde of the world’s best killers.”

The first $4.99 issue of Tear Us Apart drops September 6, 2023 at all good comic shops.
