In a near 2-hour presentation, Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest 2022’s opening event was comprised mostly of already announced titles.
With updates on the status of existing projects, additional trailers, and gameplay footage on the likes of Gotham Knights, Saints Row, Nightingale, Soul Hackers 2, and many more taking up the bulk of the Summer Game Fest opening showcase. There were some glimpses of new things on the horizon though.
NEW STUFF
- Aliens: Dark Descent (PS5 & PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC). We’ve had Isolation, now lets have the horde. More xenomorph horror. Mostly a cinematic trailer with brief snatches of gameplay. Coming 2023.
- First look at Flashback 2 – a sequel to a classic game that came out some-thirty years ago (PS5 & PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC) – Winter 2022.
- A new dark fantasy FPS title with Witchfire will be in early access via the Epic Games Store.
- Fort Solis – new indie horror thriller. Extra focus on the narrative. Not much more was revealed beyond that.
- Routine (Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Game Pass) – first announced over a decade ago and another sci-fi horror — are we detecting a theme? — This one has…EVIL ROBOTS!!!! Here’s hoping the release is not another decade away. At least not before Skynet gets us.
- Stormgate. A new free-to-play real time strategy IP from former Blizzard developers in the Starcraft vein. Will go into beta next year but signups are open now.
- Highwater. An indie adventure strategy game focused set in a post-climate disaster future.
- Layers of Fears – the third title in the Layers of Fear franchise by horror afficionados Bloober Team. Coming to Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Steam and Epic Games Store in 2023.
