More delays out of Warner Bros.
Warner Bros. announced a big delay with Wonder Woman ’84 yesterday, but a few other announcements flew under the radar. The In the Heights movie adapting Lin-Manuel Miranda’s absolute bop of a musical, is looking for a new premiere date, as is Scoob!, the animated Scooby Doo movie starring Mark Wahlberg and Zac Efron. The former was aiming for a June 26 release and the latter was slated for May 15.Meanwhile, the studio is staying decidedly quiet on the hotly anticipated Chistopher Nolan flick, Tenet, which is eyeing a July 17 debut. But, time will tell how long that lasts.
SXSW may be cancelled but there are still winners
The Austin, Texas film festival is announcing its 2020 award winners two days after the planned end date, on Tuesday, March 24, in spite of being cancelled due to coronavirus concerns. Cooper Raiff’s comedy Shithouse won the Grand Jury Award while Katrine Philp’s An Elephant in the Room won out amongst documentary features. Tomer Shusan’s White Eye won for narrative short, Carol Nguyen’s No Crying at the Dinner Table won for documentary short, Nadja Andrasev’s Symbiosis won for animated short and Santiago Menghini’s Midnight won for Midnight short. Marie Kondo heard the world is a mess, so she’s Tidying Up again for Netflix
Apparently reality TV is doing well at Netflix. The streamer is reinvesting in that slate with renews for a Marie Kondo series along with Love is Blind, The Circle and Rhythm + Flow. At the end of February, Love is Blind ranked top among Netflix’s pickings because people love love stories. Similarly, Kondo’s previous show, Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, found major popularity thanks to social media battles over its gentle prodding to stop holding onto things you don’t need. She’s back this time with Sparking Joy with Marie Kondo, in which she and her team will tidy an entire North American town. And! You can nominate your town here.
This is the way to more Mando casting
Michael Biehn is back. The Terminator and Aliens star was recently cast in Disney’s upcoming second season of The Mandalorian, as confirmed by THR. Biehn’s been fairly low key since his two major roles – but this one will certainly change that. The Mandalorian is beloved by many and its nascent starring character is the biggest internet boom in recent memory. For the show’s next go, Biehn will play a bounty hunter of some kind, with no other details yet to be revealed. He joins Pedro Pascal and the recently announced Rosario Dawson. The Mandalorian’s second season is slated for an October premiere on Disney+ and is from creator Jon Favreau.
The younger Hemsworth is getting desperate
The Most Dangerous Game is back for another adaptation starring Liam Hemsworth and Christoph Waltz. This first trailer form Quibi is – well a bit cheesy, but definitely in a good way. Dodge Tynes (Hemsworth) is terminally ill, his wife is pregnant and he needs cash fast. He’s left with no choice but to take part in Waltz’s particularly risky event, in which he spends 24 straight hours on the run from humans trying to murder him. If he survives, he takes home $24.5 mil. See if he does it when Quibi launches on April 6, 2020.
