Blumhouse’s version of an emotional support dog will destroy its owner’s enemies
In a recent announcement, Blumhouse casted Judy Greer, Steve Guttenberg, Ellen Wong, Elise Neal, Maria Conchita Alonso, McKinley Freeman and Chico the Dog for its June Into the Dark installment, Good Boy. In celebration of Pet Appreciation Week, the movie follows a woman named Maggie (Greer) who gets an emotional support dog (Chico). It’s extremely effective at its job, because it secretly kills anyone who stresses her out, leaving her worry-free.
Apparently, writers Aaron and Will Eisenberg had Greer specifically in mind for the role – so when they saw her out in the wild walking her terrier, they couldn’t help but pitch their movie, which lead to an actual pitch meeting and – well – this announcement! Tyler MacIntyre directed the movie, which subscribers will be able to watch on Hulu this summer.
In My Skin makes a deal with Hulu
Hulu and BBC are teaming up to bring the dark comedy In My Skin to streaming audiences, per Variety. The show follows a 16-year-old whose efforts to hide her mother’s mental health issues and her father’s alcoholism from her friends leads to a chaotic home; and is created and written by Kayleigh Llewellyn who was inspired by her own teenage years.
Following its pilot, In My Skin was awarded two BAFTA Cymru Awards – and on June 4, Hulu subscribers across the globe will be able to see why. The series stars Gabrielle Creevy, James Wilbraham, Poppy Lee Friar, Jo Hartley, Aled ap Steffan, Di Botcher and Rhodri Meilir.
Novelist Emma Brodie will adapt her own Songs in Ursa Major for film
Emma Brodie’s novel Songs in Ursa Major has been acquired by acquired by Village Roadshow Pictures in a recent feature film deal. Brodie will also adapt the book herself, with Greg Berlanti and his own Berlanti Productions on board to produce. Alfred A. Knopf will publish Songs In Ursa Major in the summer of 2021.
Here’s the book’s official synopsis: “a love story set in 1969 at the crossroads of rock and folk about a young musical prodigy who falls in love with a hard-partying folk legend and must decide how far she’s willing to ride a man’s coattails to make her dreams come true.”
Reno 911! is back for season 7 with a new home
After over a decade, Comedy Central’s beloved cop show is back – but not in the same place. Season 7 of Reno 911! will be available exclusively on Quibi, the quick-hitting mobile-minded streamer. Beginning on May 4, subscribers will be able to watch new episodes of Reno with the entire main cast returning, including Robert Ben Garant, Thomas Lennon and Kerri Kenney-Silver, Niecy Nash, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Cedric Yarbrough, Carlos Alazraqui, Ian Roberts, Joe LoTruglio and Mary Birdsong for the 12-episode season.
Amazon’s Hanna drops a season 2 release date
In a new teaser, Amazon has revealed season 2 of Hanna will air for Prime subscribers on July 3, 2020. Although it’s only a quick 30 second look at what comes next, it reminds fans that Hanna is on the run – and under constant surveillance from the nefarious UTRAX program. In equal parts high-concept thriller and coming-of-age drama, Hanna follows the journey of an extraordinary young girl raised in the forest, as she evades the relentless pursuit of an off-book CIA agent and tries to unearth the truth behind who she is. Check it out this summer.
