It’s safe to say the Static Shock animated series from the early aughts was the introduction for many not only to the character of Virgil Hawkins (the titular Static) but the Milestone Universe in general. Earlier this month, the entire series became available on the free Tubi streaming platform. Apparently it was only the beginning of things to come because DC has announced that Static will be joining the New Titans with issue #38 this August.
As readers are well aware, Static reemerged in the main DC Universe the DC K.O.: The Kids Are All Fight Special one-shot special a few months ago and the recent New History of the DC Universe: The Dakota Incident properly reincorporating Static and the other Milestone characters into the main DC Universe.

Meanwhile, as part of the second act of DC’s All In initiative the creative team of writer writer Tate Brombal and artist Sami Basri recently took over the New Titans book title establishing a new team roster that includes Jon Kent, Yara Flor, Tara Markov, and Stephanie Brown. The latest issue this week added former Blue Devil sidekick Red Devil to the team as well as new character Eva the Daughter of Tomorrow.
According to the publisher, Static’s debut in the series coincides with the Titans facing a looming crisis in the Amazon rainforests:
New Titans #38 follows Static as his path intersects with that of Jon Kent, a.k.a. Superman, at Mount Titans, just as an emissary from Wonder Girl’s tribe arrives seeking Yara Flor’s help against a rising force in the Amazon rainforests of Brazil. As the Titans prepare for their first major mission, Static steps into a team grappling with internal tensions and a threat powerful enough to challenge even their combined abilities.
With a new crisis rising in the Amazon and the Titans pushed to their limits, Static’s arrival marks the spark that will drive the team into its most challenging mission yet. His return sets the stage for a high-stakes arc that reshapes the Titans’ path and reintroduces one of DC’s most electrifying heroes to the center of the action.
This isn’t Static’s first rodeo with the Titans. When Milestone was first folded into the DC Universe right before the launch of the New 52 reboot, Static became a member of the Teen Titans from issues #68-87 of the third volume of the series.

Ahead of the release of issue #38 in August, July’s New Titans #37 will feature a four-page prelude that follows Virgil in the aftermath of his recent reemergence. This short story bridges the events of The Kids Are All Fight and The Dakota Incident, culminating in a reunion with Jon Kent that draws Virgil toward the mission awaiting the Titans in issue #38.
New Titans #38 will feature a main cover by Taurin Clarke and variant covers by Dike Ruan and Lucas Meyer, along with a foil variant by Dike Ruan. New Titans #38 will be available on August 19, 2026, for $3.99 US, with card stock variants priced at $4.99 US.
